Alheit Cartology
Cartology is a vinous exploration of Cape heritage. It’s intended to be a picture of the Cape seen through the lens of her old vineyards in a given vintage. The cuveé is composed of rare and extraordinary parcels of mature dryland bushvines, of heritage grapes, namely Chenin Blanc and Semilllon. These grapes have been planted in the Cape for centuries. Cartology has become our staple offering. It serves as a poster child for our project, and also seems to have become a flag bearer for Cape heritage wine in general.
Alheit Gone South
The nose shows beautiful pear and fresh citrus, particularly grapefruit, perhaps kumquat. There are musky herbal notes present here too, difficult to define, something like rooibos. As always, the wine has a striking sense of purity. That classic Skurfberg saline vigour underpins the whole palate. This vintage is medium-bodied yet rich in flavour, with good length and balance.
Alvi’s Drift Sparkling Range Brut Cap Classique
With its refreshing bouquet of lemon cream biscuit, stewed apple, a hint of lemon zest and blossoms, this refined Cap Classique sparkling wine boasts a sparkling pale straw colour with racy, fine bubbles that form a fine mousse crown.
The wine’s crisp, lively acidity bursts onto the palate with a lovely, creamy texture, delivering superb mid-palate depth with an elegant, clean lime finish.
The delightful burst of bubbles on the palate enhances the experience, culminating in a deliciously lingering aftertaste.
Amazing Grace Cabernet Sauvignon
The 2018 Amazing Grace sees the introduction of our young vines planted in 2013. The wine shows its typical perfume and refined tannins but with a dash of red fruits and added structure. The young vines have been a breath of fresh air and a welcome addition to our final blend. With distinctive notes of blackcurrant, violets and dried herbs, the wine is bold and rich with a mouthful of dark fruits, liquorice and chocolate. Enjoy now or be patient and see this wine develop to its full potential over the next 8-1-years. Decanting recommended.
