Savage Red

A wine deep in character, full and round, Samsara was made of Syrah grapes and lightly filtered after ageing slowly in barrels for 12 to 16 months.

A bright clear medium ruby colour. The nose, starting with violets, evolves into blackberry and bramble. The palate is vibrant with a touch of complex spices, like freshly crushed black pepper and liquorice.

Introduced in 2015, Penfolds Max’s Shiraz is a tribute to former Chief Winemaker Max Schubert who served in the role from 1948-1975, a legend in Penfolds history. Max’s constant pursuit of excellence paved the way for those who followed in his footsteps and allowed the status and heritage of Penfolds to grow. A contemporary offering of South Australian shiraz, this release provides a fruit-driven wine which is generous in flavour and persistent across the palate.

This intense dark coloured wine has a pungent rich nose of liquorice and black fruits with nuances of cloves, thyme and white pepper. With the aromas being so expressive, one would expect a bold palate, but on the contrary. Being full-bodied and well-structured these aromas are tamed and lay to rest on a layered palate that has a lot to give. With a long and lingering finish, this wine will ask questions of why you haven’t purchased more.
