The Anvil is powerful and captivating on the nose, with peppery spice and dark fruit flavours. This is backed up by a bright, juicy palate bathed in oak spice, anise, black berries and a savoury all-spice finish.
Beef brisket, slow cooked oxtail and gooey dark chocolate fondant make brilliant food pairings

Description
The Old Road Wine Co. Originals range recalls the stories of the legendary characters who shaped the Franschhoek community in its early years. The Anvil recognises the once indispensable local blacksmith, who forged iron with his sledge and anvil over an open fire to create items that were both necessities and works of art. This Shiraz strikes a similar balance between power and elegance, its robust tannins offset by well-defined black
fruit, spice and savoury notes.
in the vineyard : The Anvil Shiraz has its roots in the shale soils of Stellenbosch and Agter Paarl. To achieve a cooler, elegant style, the south-facing vineyards are rigorously quality managed with green harvesting and leaf removal.
in the cellar : The juice is cold soaked for 2 days at 14°C before fermentation begins for deep colour and flavour extraction. Fermentation is done at a high temperature on 2.5 g/litre French oak staves and after fermentation the wine is aged in 3rd and 4th fill barrels for 12 months.

With a deep, purple colour, red berries and hints of charcoal with faint liquorice on the nose are set against gentle floral notes in the background, making way for blueberries, cassis, and nuances of sweet, dried herbs.
The palate displays layers of berry fruit with spices of pepper, cinnamon and clove. A soft entry on the palate is supported with supple tannins, impressive length and bright, acidity.

Penfolds Shiraz Range St Henri Shiraz
R2 030,00
St Henri is a time-honoured and alternative expression of shiraz, and an intriguing counterpoint to Grange. It is unusual amongst high quality Australian red wines as it does not rely on any new oak. Released for the first time by Penfolds in the early 1950s (first commercial vintage 1957), it gained a new lease of life in the 1990s as its quality and distinctive style became better understood. Proudly, a wine style that hasn’t succumbed to the dictates of fashion or commerce. St Henri is rich and plush when young, gaining soft, earthy, mocha-like characters with age. It is matured in an assortment of old large vats that allow the wine to develop, imparting minimal, if any oak character. Although a small proportion of cabernet may sneak into the blend, the focal point for St Henri remains shiraz.
Quion Rock Shiraz

This Rhône-style Shiraz showcases white pepper, plums and cassis on the nose that follow through with a rich textured pallet. The new oak plays a supportive role, adding hints of pencil shavings and oak spice, while still respecting and enhancing the fruit profile on the palate of this well-balanced wine.

This intense dark coloured wine has a pungent rich nose of liquorice and black fruits with nuances of cloves, thyme and white pepper. With the aromas being so expressive, one would expect a bold palate, but on the contrary. Being full-bodied and well-structured these aromas are tamed and lay to rest on a layered palate that has a lot to give. With a long and lingering finish, this wine will ask questions of why you haven’t purchased more.
