David & Nadia Chenin Blanc
R450,00
Grapes from various old-vine sites. Some reduction before peach, citrus and hay. Good depth of fruit and well-integrated acidity β as with many examples of Swartland Chenin from this vintage, this wine is textured and substantial even at low alcohol, 12.5% in this instance. Not overtly expressive but still layered
βThe 2022 Chenin Blanc comes from a blend of eight single vineyards, four of which are bottled as single-vineyard Chenin Blanc. It displays a refined nose with notions of apple and citrus blossom and white peach and wax melon. Medium-bodied and with a fine mineral tension, the palate displays a kiss of phenolic bitterness before revealing layers of complexity. It ends with a refined, fresh, ethereal finish. Enjoy with food. 2023-2035β β Anthony Mueller, Wine Advocate, 92/100
βThe 2022 Chenin Blanc comes from 8 vineyards in granite soils, plantings from 1968 to 1986, matured 20% in concrete and the remainder in neutral oak. Lemon thyme, orange zest and light waxy scents blossom on the nose – quite intense and well-delineated, almost feisty in style. The palate is taut and fresh, more saline than the Aristargos, with a linear, slightly more malic finish than usual. Plenty of freshness, but I would cellar this for 3-5 years before broaching. Very fine. 2026-2040β β Neal Martin, Vinous, 91/100
